tamar valley | wander

In just a few minutes drive from the heart of Launceston along the Tamar River / Kanamaluka, you'll be well on your way to the beautiful Tamar Valley, well known and highly regarded as Tassie's oldest and most-established wine-growing region. In 2024, Launceston and the Tamar Valley were named as Lonely Planets #4 must-see destinations world-wide, and it's easy to see why...

As you head out along the West Tamar highway, you'll note the peaceful Tamar Island wetlands and as you continue further you can take the turnoff to see the Swiss Village at Grindlewald and enjoy a round of putt-putt or splash golf.

Delve into the history of gold-mining in the region with an interactive tour at the Beaconsfield Mine and Heritage Centre.

Be enchanted by nature - the Tamar Valley is home to various opportunities to get up close with the animals - just 20-minutes from Launceston is the Tasmanian Zoo where you can see a Tassie Devil and so many other amazing animals; and further afield in Beauty Point you'll find the award-winning Seahorse World and Platypus House.

Pop across the river at the Batman bridge and continue out to Low Head to discover the Low Head Maritime Museum and lighthouse, and take the opportunity for a Penguin tour at nightfall.
